The Panvel taluka and city units of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) paid tribute to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary at the party’s central office in Panvel.
Party members recalled Upadhyaya’s contribution to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and his political and philosophical work. The BJP’s own historical material identifies him as a leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and describes Integral Humanism as a central part of his political philosophy.
During the commemoration, speakers highlighted Upadhyaya’s emphasis on a simple way of life and his engagement with Indian philosophical and social thought. His philosophy of Integral Humanism (एकात्म मानववाद) sought to present an integrated approach to the individual, society and national life, and was formally adopted as the Jana Sangh’s ideological framework at its 1965 Vijayawada session, according to BJP archival material.
The gathering also recalled his emphasis on ensuring that development reached the most disadvantaged sections of society and on giving importance to Indian values in public and national life.
Party members said Upadhyaya’s ideas continue to influence BJP workers and paid tribute to his memory on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
