The Department of Chemistry at Changu Kana Thakur Arts, Commerce and Science College, New Panvel (Autonomous) organised an awareness programme on the theme “Importance of Chemistry and Its Applications in Daily Life” at the Raigad Zilla Parishad School in Valvali (Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) area) on March 17, 2026.
The initiative aimed to introduce school students to the practical relevance of chemistry and encourage a scientific approach to learning from an early stage.
Focus on Practical Learning
During the session, students were guided on how chemistry is linked to everyday life, along with an introduction to key concepts in an accessible manner. The programme also aimed to reduce hesitation around the subject and make it more engaging for young learners.
Students participated actively in the session, reflecting interest and curiosity towards the subject.
Institutional Initiative
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Patil, with planning and coordination led by Head of Department Prof. Dr. B. V. Jadhav.
The initiative was organised with the support of Dr. Shailesh Vajekar, faculty member at the college and a native of Valvali village.
Faculty members including Dr. V. S. Kamble and Mr. Rahul Patil, along with non-teaching staff member Mr. Chandrakant Parkale, were present.
Local Participation
The programme received support from the school, with Headmistress Mrs. Jyoti Ghosalkar facilitating the activity. Mrs. Reshma Patil welcomed the participants, while Mr. Dayanand Mokal delivered the vote of thanks.
Building Academic Connect
Organisers noted that such outreach initiatives help strengthen engagement between educational institutions and local schools, while encouraging students to take greater interest in science subjects.
They added that similar programmes are likely to be conducted in the future.
