The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated strict action against property tax defaulters, directing officials to issue notices and proceed with attachment and auction of properties if dues remain unpaid within the stipulated deadline.
The directive was issued by the Municipal Commissioner during a review meeting on property tax recovery with officials from all administrative divisions.
Notices and deadline
Officials have been instructed to serve notices to defaulters and initiate recovery proceedings. If property tax dues are not cleared by March 31, 2026, the civic body may proceed with attachment of properties followed by auction, in accordance with existing rules.
The action will primarily focus on non-residential, industrial and vacant land properties, where significant arrears have been identified.
Recovery drive gains momentum
Property tax remains a major source of revenue for the civic body, and a special recovery drive is currently underway to improve collections before the close of the financial year.
Despite ongoing efforts, several property owners are yet to clear their dues, prompting the administration to escalate enforcement measures.
Relief Option Through Abhay Scheme
The civic body has also provided relief through the ‘Abhay Yojana’, announced on March 10, 2026, under which property owners can avail a 50% waiver on late payment charges if the entire outstanding amount is paid in one go.
The scheme is applicable to residential, non-residential, industrial and vacant land properties, and will remain valid till March 31, 2026 (midnight).
In a little over the first week of its launch, residents gave a strong response to NMMC’s ‘Abhay Yojana’, with over 5,700 property owners clearing their dues in just a matter of nine days.

- Walk in: Physical payment at tax collection centres across all eight ward offices
Over 3,600 defaulters issued notices
The property tax department has already issued 7-day and 48-hour notices to 3,642 defaulters. In cases where dues remain unpaid even after notice, the process of property attachment and auction has been initiated.
