The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a special drinking water quality inspection drive across various parts of the city following complaints received regarding water quality in certain areas within the municipal limits.
The inspection drive was carried out on May 28 under the directions of Mayor Sujata Patil and Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde.
The large-scale inspection campaign was conducted under the guidance of Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde and involved executive engineers from the water supply and Morbe divisions, departmental deputy engineers, assistant engineers, junior engineers and comprehensive water supply system contractors.
During the drive, detailed inspections and testing were carried out at the Bhokarpada Water Purification Centre, along the main water pipeline network and across multiple civic divisions from Belapur to Digha.
According to the civic administration, a total of 663 water samples were tested during the exercise. These included 72 samples collected from the Bhokarpada Water Purification Centre, 96 samples from the main water pipeline network and 495 samples from various areas across Belapur, Nerul, Turbhe, Vashi, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, Airoli and Digha divisions.
Officials stated that the samples were tested for parameters including pH levels, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), residual chlorine and turbidity in accordance with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS IS 10500) norms and CPHEEO guidelines.
Following the inspection and testing process, the civic body stated that the drinking water supplied across Navi Mumbai was found to be within the prescribed quality standards laid down by BIS and CPHEEO.
NMMC further stated that it remains committed to providing safe, clean and quality drinking water to residents and that regular quality monitoring exercises will continue across the city’s water supply system.
The civic body has also appealed to citizens to contact their respective ward offices or the toll-free number 1800222309 in case of any complaints related to water supply or water quality.
In a related story, Mayor Sujata Patil assured that the Morbe Dam water stock was sufficient till July end, after a through inspection tour of the dam.
