The General Body of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved the budget estimates for 2026–27, with the total outlay revised to ₹6,904.43 crore.
The budget 2026-27 was presented by Mayor Sujata Patil at a special budget session, where the revised estimates for 2025–26 and the original estimates for 2026–27 were placed before the house under provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and approved unanimously.
Deputy Mayor Dasharath Bhagat and Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde were present during the proceedings.
Revisions and final figures
The Standing Committee had earlier proposed a budget of ₹5,830.82 crore for 2025–26 (revised) and ₹6,704.43 crore for 2026–27.
Following discussions by members, including House Leader Sagar Naik and Opposition Leader Vijay Chougule, revisions were incorporated.
An increase of ₹200 crore in the opening balance was factored in, taking the total receipts for 2026–27 to ₹6,904.43 crore. Correspondingly, expenditure was revised to ₹6,889.43 crore, leaving an estimated closing balance of ₹15 crore.
No tax increase, focus on services
Speaking at the session, Mayor Patil stated that the budget has been structured without any increase in taxes, with emphasis on planned development and delivery of civic services.
She said the budget focuses on sectors such as sanitation, healthcare, environment, education and public welfare, along with infrastructure development.
Implementation and revenue focus
Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde said the administration will focus on effective implementation of budget provisions to ensure service delivery.
He added that priority will be given to recovery of pending property tax and water charges over the next three months to strengthen revenue.
The commissioner also noted that digital governance initiatives are being expanded to provide citizens with easier access to online services. He said ward-level meetings with elected representatives and officials will be undertaken to address local issues.
