In a city often identified with its educated and technology-friendly population, Navi Mumbai residents are increasingly embracing the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s WhatsApp chatbot service as a quick and convenient gateway to civic services.
Available on the number 8291920504, the chatbot service has rapidly emerged as one of NMMC’s most actively used digital public platforms, helping citizens access municipal services, make payments and receive civic updates directly through WhatsApp without visiting municipal offices.
Officials say the response to the service has grown significantly in a short span, reflecting the increasing preference for simplified digital governance solutions among residents.
More than 100 civic services now accessible online
NMMC has been steadily expanding its digital governance initiatives to reduce the need for physical visits to civic offices.
According to officials, apart from the 68 public services notified by the government, the civic body has additionally made 45 more services available online, taking the total number of digital civic services to 113.
These range from birth and death certificates to building permission-related services and citizen applications.
Within this broader digital ecosystem, the WhatsApp chatbot has become a key public interface connecting citizens directly with civic services.
Property tax, water bills and welfare schemes integrated into chatbot
The chatbot currently offers multiple integrated civic services through WhatsApp itself.
These include:
- online access to property tax bills and payments
- water bill access and payment facilities
- AI-assisted guidance for over 50 welfare schemes under the social development department
- access to civic application forms
- support in both Marathi and English languages
Officials stated that the service has simplified routine municipal interactions for residents while also reducing paperwork and physical queues.
Lakhs of citizens reached through digital messaging
NMMC officials highlighted that the chatbot platform has also become an important public communication tool for the civic administration.
According to the civic body:
- over 3 lakh citizens received property tax payment reminders directly on their mobile phones
- more than 1 lakh property tax defaulters received messages regarding the Abhay Yojana
- over 1 lakh citizens received Swachh Survekshan feedback participation messages
- more than 1 lakh residents are currently being sent Census 2027 participation messages
Officials stated that these targeted digital outreach campaigns have significantly improved citizen communication and response rates.
Rs 10 crore reportedly collected through WhatsApp outreach
One of the most striking outcomes highlighted by the administration relates to revenue collection.
According to officials, WhatsApp outreach messages sent during March 2026 reportedly contributed to collections amounting to nearly Rs 10 crore.
The civic body stated that the overall messaging expenditure for this outreach was approximately Rs 60,000, making it a highly cost-effective communication initiative.
Officials further stated that around 7,000 to 8,000 users have already used WhatsApp payment links to complete civic bill payments directly through the platform.
In addition, over 1 lakh citizens reportedly used WhatsApp assistance to seek help regarding property tax payments.
24×7 availability proving popular among residents
Officials say one of the biggest advantages of the chatbot service is its round-the-clock accessibility.
Since the service remains available 24×7, residents can access information, make payments and use civic services at their convenience — including during late hours and public holidays.
The bilingual support in Marathi and English, combined with the familiar WhatsApp interface, has also made the service easier for residents across different age groups to use comfortably.
With Navi Mumbai increasingly positioning itself as a digitally connected urban centre, officials believe the growing use of the WhatsApp chatbot reflects a broader shift towards faster, more accessible and citizen-friendly governance systems.
