The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to residents of Panvel region to convert to piped natural gas (PNG) connections in areas where pipeline infrastructure is available.
The appeal follows the Centre’s broader push to increase the use of natural gas and reduce dependence on LPG, particularly in urban areas with existing gas pipeline networks.
PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale has urged citizens to consider switching to PNG as a domestic fuel option, highlighting its availability in select parts of the Panvel region, spanning across Kharghar to Panvel, where png connections are available.
Shift towards natural gas
The move aligns with ongoing efforts to expand the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix, with piped gas being promoted as an alternative to cylinder-based LPG systems in areas where infrastructure has been developed.
PNG is supplied through pipelines directly to households, removing the need for cylinder storage and replacement.

The PMC has stated that residents in areas with access to gas pipelines may consider opting for PNG connections.
