The long-awaited widening of State Highway 103 (SH-103) near the JNPA Township Gate in Dronagiri has moved a step closer to implementation, following administrative approval for the project. The development comes after sustained follow-up efforts by MLA Mahesh Baldi, who had repeatedly raised the issue with CIDCO and other concerned authorities.
The proposed widening is expected to benefit commuters travelling between Uran Railway Station, Bokadvira and the JNPA Township area, where traffic congestion has remained a persistent concern for several years.
Key route serving port, industrial and residential traffic
The SH-103 corridor serves as an important transportation link for traffic moving towards Dronagiri Node, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), nearby industrial zones and residential townships in the region.
However, the existing road width has often proved inadequate to accommodate increasing vehicular movement, particularly the large number of heavy vehicles using the route on a daily basis.
Local residents and motorists have frequently reported traffic bottlenecks along the stretch, especially near the JNPA Township Gate, leading to delays and inconvenience for commuters.
Follow-up efforts highlight long-standing issue
Taking note of the recurring congestion, MLA Mahesh Baldi had been pursuing the matter with the relevant government departments and planning authorities, seeking early intervention to improve road infrastructure in the area.
According to information shared, the concerned authorities have now taken a positive decision regarding the project, enabling the road widening proposal to move forward.
Improved traffic flow expected
Once completed, the widened roadway is expected to increase traffic-carrying capacity and help reduce congestion along the corridor.
The project is also expected to improve road safety by facilitating smoother movement of vehicles, including cargo and industrial transport heading towards JNPA and surrounding industrial areas.
Residents, members of the business community and regular commuters have welcomed the development, noting that the widening of the road could help address a long-standing infrastructure concern in the region.
Work expected to commence after administrative clearance
According to MLA Mahesh Baldi, CIDCO has granted administrative approval for the project, and the process leading to commencement of on-ground work is expected to move ahead in the coming period.
The road widening project is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening transport infrastructure in the rapidly developing Uran–Dronagiri belt and improving connectivity for both residents and commercial traffic using the route.
