The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has commenced a two-day large-scale disaster management exercise in coordination with national and state disaster response agencies, along with local municipal bodies.
The exercise is aimed at strengthening the airport’s preparedness to handle complex emergency situations through coordinated response mechanisms.
The first day featured a comprehensive Tabletop Exercise (TTEx), bringing together key stakeholders to simulate emergency scenarios and assess response strategies.
Among those present were Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale, Major Ajay Verma from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), along with representatives from emergency response agencies, municipal officials and school students.
The exercise will culminate in a full-scale emergency mock drill scheduled for April 9, 2026, where on-ground response systems and inter-agency coordination will be tested in real-time conditions.
Officials indicated that such exercises are critical to ensuring readiness, identifying gaps and improving coordinated action during emergencies at a facility of this scale.
