In a civic-focused initiative aimed at supporting traffic police personnel working under difficult weather conditions, the Panvel Mahanagar Press Club has taken the lead in proposing a shelter facility for traffic police staff stationed at the busy HDFC Chowk junction in New Panvel.
As part of the initiative, representatives of the Press Club recently met Senior Police Inspector Audumbar Patil of the Panvel Traffic Branch to review the ground situation and discuss the requirements for the proposed shelter facility.
Traffic police personnel routinely remain deployed on roads for long hours in harsh sunlight, heavy rain and increasing traffic congestion while managing vehicle movement and ensuring smooth traffic flow across the city.
Highlighting the demanding nature of their duties, members of the Press Club noted that traffic personnel continue performing their responsibilities amid constant vehicular noise, pollution and challenging weather conditions, often while remaining away from their families during festivals and public occasions due to duty commitments.
The Press Club also emphasised the importance of public cooperation and respectful interaction with traffic personnel, noting that enforcement action against rule violations forms part of their official responsibilities.
Panvel Mahanagar Press Club president Prashant Shedge stated that the organisation has consistently undertaken various social initiatives and that the proposed shelter facility for traffic police personnel would be developed as part of those efforts.
During the meeting, the Press Club assured the traffic department that efforts would be made to make the shelter facility available at the earliest.
Senior journalist Sanjay Kadam, Press Club general secretary Rakesh Pitale, treasurer Sachin Bhole, other members of the Press Club and police personnel were also present during the interaction.
