Buddhist followers gathered in Panvel to observe the 70th Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day, paying tribute to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and reaffirming their commitment to the principles of equality, liberty, fraternity and social justice.
BJP Maharashtra secretary and Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur, Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) Mayor Nitin Patil and House Leader Advocate Prakash Binedar attended the programme alongside office-bearers of various organisations and members of the Buddhist community.
The event was jointly organised by the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Foundation, Panvel; Bharatiya Bauddha Mahasabha; Bauddhajan Panchayat Samiti; Bauddha Dhamma Prachar-Prasar Samiti; and Triratna Bauddha Mahasangh.
Those present paid their respects to Ambedkar and reflected on the teachings of Gautama Buddha, highlighting the continuing relevance of their ideas on equality, fraternity and social justice.
