Kalpataru Riverside, a large residential complex in Panvel known for its environment-focused initiatives, has commissioned an additional 100 KW solar power project, taking the township’s total solar energy generation capacity to 400 KW.
The newly expanded solar power system was inaugurated by former Panvel Municipal Corporation House Leader and current corporator Paresh Thakur.
An earlier 300 KW solar energy project at the complex had previously been inaugurated by MLA Prashant Ramsheth Thakur.
With the latest expansion, Kalpataru Riverside has now emerged among the major residential solar energy initiatives in Maharashtra’s housing sector and is being regarded as one of the prominent large-scale solar-powered residential societies in the state.
Residents and management committee members stated that the initiative reflects the township’s continued focus on sustainable development, energy conservation and environmentally responsible urban living.
Housing around 850 families, the residential complex has over the years implemented several environmental initiatives including wet and dry waste segregation, compost generation, sewage treatment systems, reuse of treated water, large-scale tree plantation and multiple eco-friendly community practices.
Officials associated with the project stated that the fully operational 400 KW solar energy system is expected to significantly reduce the society’s electricity expenditure, with annual savings estimated between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 1 crore.
The project is also expected to reduce pressure on the state’s electricity distribution infrastructure by promoting localised renewable energy generation.
Speaking during the programme, society chairman Prashant Balaram Thakur credited Milind Kulkarni, Abhijit Patil and Satish Pille for their contribution towards the successful execution of the project.
He stated that energy self-sufficiency and environmental conservation have become increasingly important in present times and expressed hope that more housing societies across Maharashtra would adopt similar green energy initiatives.
“We are always willing to share our experience with other housing societies interested in moving towards energy self-reliance and sustainable living,” he said.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, corporator Paresh Thakur praised the management committee and residents for collectively implementing a large-scale environmentally sustainable project within a residential township.
“Managing a residential complex of nearly 850 families is similar to managing a small city. Successfully implementing an environmentally beneficial and financially sustainable initiative at such a scale is commendable,” he said.
Society secretary Nitin Thakur, treasurer Purushottam Talekar, management committee members, office-bearers and several residents were present during the inauguration programme.
