The Panvel Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) encroachment department carried out a drive in Kharghar, removing unauthorised roadside vendors and clearing margin spaces across several sectors.
The action, undertaken under Ward Committee ‘A’, focused on areas where ice-cream and falooda carts had been operating without permission. A total of six such carts were seized from sectors 7, 12, 18 and 19.
In addition, marginal space at Hiranandani in sector 7 was cleared during the drive. Officials also seized 15 steel stools placed outside Fatoush, a food outlet in the premises, along with a table.
Civic officials said the action was carried out following instructions from Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, after repeated instances of unauthorised vending were observed across parts of Kharghar.
The presence of roadside carts, particularly in busy stretches, has often led to concerns around obstruction of pedestrian space and localised congestion — issues that such drives typically aim to address.
Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner Maheshkumar Meghmale, Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Rupali Mane, and Superintendent Jitendra Madhavi, were present during the operation along with the encroachment team and security staff.
The municipal corporation has indicated that similar action against unauthorised encroachments will continue in the coming days as part of its ongoing enforcement efforts.
