Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil said that while International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide as a symbolic occasion, the role and contribution of women should be acknowledged every single day.

She was speaking at the ‘Ghe Bharari’ women’s mini marathon, organised at Dr D.Y. Patil Stadium as part of International Women’s Day celebrations in the city. Over 1300 women participated in NMMC’s 5-km mini marathon for a clean and green navi mumbai.

Patil noted that women play a central role in shaping families and society, adding that a woman carries within her the power of creation and renewal, making her contribution invaluable to the progress of communities.

Events That Encourage Participation

The Mayor expressed satisfaction that programmes such as the ‘Ghe Bharari’ mini marathon bring women into public spaces through fitness, civic participation and social engagement.

She added that such initiatives help strengthen women’s confidence, collective participation and awareness, while also promoting broader civic causes such as cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
