India is set to undertake Census 2027, a major national exercise that will rely on digital tools for improved accuracy and efficiency. A key feature this time is Census 2027 self-enumeration, allowing citizens to submit their household details online.

In Navi Mumbai too, public awareness around the census has also been amplified through outreach initiatives by both the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), including appeals by public figures such as actor Sumeet Raghavan encouraging citizens to participate in the Navi Mumbai Census 2027, as it is being called here in the city.

Census 2027 timeline and phases

The census process is taking place in two stages:

Phase 1 – Self-enumeration (May 1 to May 15)

Phase 2 – Household visits (May 16 to June 14)

Both the Civic authorities have also urged residents to cooperate with both phases of the process. NMMC Commissioner has appealed to citizens to ensure accurate and complete data submission. The PMC has done the same, with the Mayor Nitin Patil, already sharing his self-enumeration status on the official X handle of the corporation, urging citizens to follow suit.

Who can complete self-enumeration?

The process can be completed by:

1. The head of the household, or
2. Any family member on their behalf

Several public representatives have already adopted the process. Forest Minister Ganesh Naik has completed self-enumeration and encouraged citizens to do the same to ensure accuracy.

Between May 16 and June 14, enumerators will visit households as part of Census 2027.
