Around 112 industrial units at Jawahar Co-operative Industrial Estate in Kamothe are set to benefit from a dedicated industrial express feeder intended to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the estate.
The foundation stone for the project was laid at the society office of Jawahar Co-operative Industrial Estate Ltd in Kamothe. The project is expected to provide 24-hour power supply to the industrial units and reduce disruptions to manufacturing operations.
Speaking at the event, Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur said uninterrupted electricity would help reduce power-related interruptions in production and support the growth of industries in the estate.
According to Thakur, the proposed feeder will supply electricity through an underground network, which he said would provide a significant benefit to the industrial units. He also said efforts for the project had been underway for several years.
Thakur credited the late Pradeep Gupte with pursuing the project over several years and said the present chairman, Swapnil Gupte, subsequently continued to follow up with the government. He said the project had received 100 per cent government funding, with work now commencing.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation’s development plan identifies Jawahar Co-operative Industrial Estate as an industrial estate in Kamothe. The plan records the estate as covering around 28 hectares and notes that it contains a substantial number of industrial plots and manufacturing units. (Panvel Corporation)
At the programme, Swapnil Gupte, chairman of Jawahar Co-operative Industrial Estate, expressed satisfaction that the project had moved forward. He also called for the Panvel Municipal Corporation to provide improved roads and other basic infrastructure in and around the industrial estate.
The programme was attended by MLA Vikrant Patil, Raigad District Collector Kisan Jawale, Mayor Nitin Patil, Additional Commissioner Ganesh Shete, Deputy Commissioner Industries and Services G. S. Harallya, Mahavitaran Superintendent Engineer Deepak Patil, along with representatives of the industrial estate and other officials and dignitaries. Kisan Jawale is the current Raigad District Collector, according to the district administration. (Raigad District)
Representatives of the industrial estate’s board, local administration, police and industry department were also present.
The project is intended to address one of the basic infrastructure requirements of the industrial estate — a reliable electricity supply — with the expected benefit extending to manufacturing activity and the businesses operating within the estate.
