The Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh will take its second production to the 65th Maharashtra State Drama Competition, with Hi Pari Asmanichi selected as its entry for this year’s competition.

The play’s script was formally inaugurated at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh’s hall in Mumbai by former MP Ramsheth Thakur.

The ceremony was attended by Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh president Sandeep Chavan, trustee and actor Devdas Matale, vice-president and actor Swati Ghosalkar, director Gurudatta Lad, vice-president Rajendra Hunje, executive committee member Rajnish Rane and Vinod Salvi.

Second competition entry

The Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh has been participating in the state drama competition as part of its efforts to extend its activities beyond journalism and into the cultural sphere.

Hi Pari Asmanichi will be the organisation’s second play to be presented at the state-level competition.

Recalling the organisation’s first production, Thakur said he had also performed the script inauguration for the Sangh’s first play. That production went on to win two awards at the state drama competition, he said.

Thakur expressed the hope that Hi Pari Asmanichi and its team would build on that earlier performance.

He also highlighted the connection between journalism and theatre, noting that journalists regularly engage with social issues and developments through their professional work, while theatre provides another medium through which society can be engaged.

According to Thakur, the stage also gives performers an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their artistic abilities. He wished the play’s actors, director and technical team success at the state competition.

Journalism and theatre come together

Sandeep Chavan said the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh had been pursuing activities that bring together journalism and the cultural movement.

He said the upcoming production represented the Sangh’s second participation in the state drama competition and expressed confidence that the team behind Hi Pari Asmanichi would seek to maintain the standard set by its first production.

The play will now represent the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh at the 65th Maharashtra State Drama Competition, bringing the organisation’s members into the state-level theatre circuit for a second time.
