Kamothe is set to witness an evening of high-energy traditional wrestling bouts on Monday, May 18, with the grand “Pareshsheth Thakur Kesari 2026” tournament scheduled to take place at the Loknete Ramsheth Thakur School ground in Sector 6.
The wrestling event is being jointly organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Kamothe and the Raigad District Wrestling Association on the occasion of the birthday of BJP youth leader, former Leader of the House in Panvel Municipal Corporation and current corporator Paresh Thakur.
According to organisers, the tournament aims to promote Maharashtra’s traditional wrestling culture, encourage young athletes and give local sports enthusiasts an opportunity to witness national-level wrestling contests in Panvel.
The event is expected to feature wrestlers from Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Nepal. Special bouts involving Hind Kesari, Maharashtra Kesari and women wrestlers are also expected to be among the major attractions of the tournament.
Organisers stated that the total prize pool for the competition has been fixed at Rs 15,55,555.
Senior political leaders expected to attend
The tournament will be inaugurated by former MP Loknete Ramsheth Thakur.
Several senior political leaders and public representatives are also expected to remain present during the event, including BJP Maharashtra president Ravindra Chavan, Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane, BJP state secretary MLA Prashant Thakur, BJYM state president Krishnaraj Mahadik and MLA Mahesh Landge.
MLAs Mahesh Baldi, Manda Mhatre, Niranjan Davkhare and Gyaneshwar Mhatre, along with senior BJP leader J. M. Mhatre, district BJP president Avinash Koli, Mayor Nitin Patil and several local office-bearers and elected representatives are also expected to attend the programme.
Organisers said thousands of wrestling enthusiasts are expected to gather for the annual sporting event, which has gradually become a prominent wrestling attraction in the Panvel region.
